If someone has a real programmer aptitude, then it doesn't matter what language they are proficient in, they can easily learn another language because it's just a matter of different of syntax - the core constructs remain consistent. There's probably some debate over whether there are separate aptitudes for procedural vs. object-oriented, but I think the mindset is consistent for both. There are those who grok programming and those who don't.

Comment From Sean Burgess

I saw an entry about this on Coding Horror and was astounded to think that people couldn't write code to handle this. Even though I am a lowly Notes developer, I could see a Lotuscript routine that could be written in less than 10 lines. I can't imagine calling my self a computer developer or programmer if I couldn't do such a thing.

Maybe what I have read is right and you can't teach someone how to be a programmer. Either they have the mental aptitude to think like a programmer or they don't. Sort of like either you have a gift for drawing or you don't. I know first hand that art classes for those without the eye for drawing are just a huge waste of time, money, and effort.

Sean---

Comment From Charles Robinson

At the 1:00 mark: Warranty Brainstorming Sesison. My name is Gayl Robison, please note the spelling of my last name. My comment has to do with your being a keyboard junkie in Lotus Notes. I need the shortcut keys to Lotus Notes and hope you will send them to me. I am teaching a blind user who would really benefit by supplementing them with the screen reader I am teaching him. I don't have Lotus Notes. I stumbled across your name while searching for hours for them through Lotus Notes on the Internet. My email is: <redacted>. Thank you for whatever you can do.
