The preceeding weekend entailed a full day commitment entertaining a friend that was in from out of town and then continued work on taxes as they were due on Tuesday of course (and I had delayed knowing I had to pay). First thing Monday morning, not long after the Viriginia Tech tragedy had begun, I found out my paternal grandfather had died. Needless to say that caused a fair amount of chaos in what was already looking like a busy week. After returning from the funeral Wednesday night, I woke up Thursday not feeling well and got progressively sicker through the day.

This past weekend already had a minimum full-day commitment (roadtrip) for the christening of my godson which I had to attend while still sick. Because the sinus problems have continued and I've felt very drained for most of this week, I'm still catching up with blog reading at this point, much less writing, given there was some major action in the Domino Blogosphere last week while I was pretty much completely out of touch.

The good news is the primary project I've been working on is drawing to a close, and I'm going to be able to catch up on some of the other projects I've been neglecting, so there should be much more activity here from this point on. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

For various reasons, I haven't been in a blogging mood for the last three months and no, I wasn't actually trapped in Solvang if anyone is wondering. Being INTP, my natural inclination in stressful times is to keep to myself. So stressful times meant no blogging. But I'm feeling less stressed lately and back in the blogging mood. With any luck, I'll post witty, insightful and interesting items now.

Who is this guy?

So who is this Jerry Glover guy anyway? Well, I've been working in techonology for way longer than I'd like to admit; over thirteen years now as a fulltime professional and the last six as a consultant.

It wasn't long into that fulltime career that I was first exposed to a little something called Lotus Notes. It was at Version 2 when I first saw it, but Version 3 was just shipping and that was what I really started working with. I'm generally pretty quick on the uptake anyway, but I grokked Notes. It instantly made sense and over the years I've been continually able to anticipate how things (particular new features, functions) work in Notes and Domino. I revel in its flexibility and power and adapt to and overcome its quirks (though sometimes with a few choice words).

For quite some time I've been making my living working almost exclusively with IBM/Lotus software products. But before that, I worked with a variety of desktop database products, networking including Novell Netware, and fun platforms like the DECVAX where I first connected to the Internet while a student (and student worker) at Auburn University. This was the Internet before the Web; the Internet of Gopher, anonymous FTP and Usenet News. And even then, it was powerful. The ability to reach out and work with people and communicate and collaborate with people like and unlike yourself regardless of geography.

Currently, I'm working with Domino to push its boundaries on the web. And as I learn new and interesting little things, I'll try to share them here with the world or at least those people who happen by.
